What Inspires My Stories?

My story ideas come from many places. Sometimes my book idea starts with a character, someone whose backstory I know right away and whose motives are clear to me. Alternatively, I have been inspired by other books.

When a cover catches my eye at a bookstore, I can't help but predict the story that will unfold. I am very pleased when I am totally wrong! Just by wondering what will happen in one book, I imagine a story of my own, completely unique from the book that inspired me. This process has led me to many novel ideas.
